... if Michael Stipe did the robot.
It's June 21. So far this month I've seen The Raconteurs, The Black Lips, The Presets, Walter Meego, Iron Maiden (well... sorta), R.E.M., Modest Mouse, The National, The Cure and 65daysofstatic. Pearl Jam, Ted Leo and Peter Murphy are next week. I think this sets a personal monthly record.
The REM/Cure back to back shows at MSG were just incredible. I'm sure it helped that both shows were recorded, but I don't care as long as it leads to those results. I really have to write all of my experiences from the past few weeks down, but between work and shows and trying to keep my house from rotting into the ground, I haven't been near a computer much. One day soon I shall tell the tales of piss boy and puke girl, but that's for another entry. For all of the weird crowd experiences I've had lately, last night was thankfully uneventful. If anything, the crowd was lame as hell. I mean, they were sitting during Hot Hot Hot!!!, which should just be a crime.
On the other hand, sleep has been elusive. Thank God for the weekend.mental state: sleepy & content now playing: I Love the 80s 3D - 1982

Much as I love Teela, she cannot compare to the awesomeness of Daria, and so I have changed my default icon.
Quick life roundup:
It's nice having my life back after being invested in television for the past few months. I hate when this happens, and I feel like a mental defective, but every few years someone just sucks me in and I start getting body parts replaced with robot eyes and assimilating people... thankfully that's over. No more rushing home from yoga and worrying whether the phone is charged.
Yoga has been really good (and hard) lately, but it's what I need. My body feels better afterwards, though not today. Monday was spent gardening for many hours and Tuesday was yoga and yesterday was 3+ hours of standing and dancing with very little sleep in between, so my body is crashing hard. Lost finale tonight! Luckily I have my first summer friday tomorrow so I can sleep late and renew my poor aching body.
The garden looks wonderful, and really only needs soil in some of the planters to fill things out. We have about a million hot pepper plants so I need to think of more things to do with the fruit once it's ready. Maybe jam or something. If anyone wants sage, we have a ton of it. The plant we bought last year never died and now it's absolutely enormous. There's no way I could ever use all of it, so if anyone needs some, please let me know. It dries really well with almost no effort so it will last a long time.
In the two years since I last saw them, She Wants Revenge has gotten much better at their live shows. Last night was lots of fun and I didn't even mind the wait at Irving Plaza (which seems to encourage their artists to take as long as possible during stage changes). Be Your Own Pet was as atrociously talentless as usual. Switches is growing on me even though they're kind of goofy hacks and The Virgins were surprisingly fantastic. I've never heard/seen them before but the vocalist has a really powerful, beautiful voice.
If you haven't heard yet, the newest NIN album, The Slip, is available as a free download on the site. Also, Van She is giving away a remix of their new single, Strangers.
I need a pedicure very badly. Maybe tomorrow. Pedicure, glass of wine, fuzzy bathrobe. That sounds like a good plan.mental state: sleepy now playing: Axium - Creep (shaddup, all of you)

My coworker just came up to me five minutes ago:
Him: Do you watch American Idol? Me: Yeah Him: I'm sorry, I should have told you. I just met David Cook a few minutes ago on the 8th floor. I would have taken you up there. Some of them might still be up there, but I left when Cook left. Me: *trying to think of words that are not FUCKFUCKFUCKFU@!*^$#*!^@*#&FUCK!* Him: If you go up there, I think Archuleta might still be there Me: *trying to strangle him with my mind*

40 miles on a bike is not good for the hoohah. It's not great for the knees either. Yoga should be a painful experience tomorrow. At least my arm is pretty much healed.
At least I finished. By the end I was propelled by furious anger, but I fucking finished that race. I was tempted to beat the woman at the end who was yelling "you're all winners!" with my bicycle pump, though.mental state: owie now playing: South Park - Pip

So clever_title and I rode 12.8 miles today and I'm not feeling that bad at the moment. I'm sure tomorrow will bring a whole host of horrors, but that's not something I can think about right now. I'm planning to do some basic yoga stretches that hopefully will make me feel less like my limbs are ready to fall off.
Yoga has been really really good so far. She started very slow with us, but now she's trying to get us into crow and crane and we've been doing some arm strengthening exercises to help with it. It's one of those things that hurts, but hurts in a good way. Hopefully this will help my carpal tunnel, since it's a lot about forearm strength and balance.

I read a lot as a child. Like, a lot. As in, I would beg my parents for money to spend at the school book fair. The school and public librarians would set books aside for me, because I was there so often. It was one of my favorite things.
That being said, I mostly read shit.
The young adult section in my public library holds fond memories. I can tell you exactly where I would sit for hours on end. I can tell you the exact details about the Canby Hall Almost Summer Carnival, and how that one bitch got her leg stuck in a... garden hose? And then the basement was flooding and she almost got hypothermia but in the end she was saved and everything was wonderful with flowers and sunshine and bunnies. The headmistress really liked black tulips... wow, I should not remember this crap.
Or the series (Satin Slippers! I just remembered! AIIIIIEEEE!) about the soon to be professional ballerinas where everyone was a homesick bitch, what with the constant practicing and bloody feet and never eating. I read the old and new Nancy Drew series. Of course I prefered the new ones because Nancy had teased hair on the cover. Sigh.
The Sleepover Friends: the trendy one only wears black, white and red! I thought this was the best thing ever when I was 10. Perhaps Meg White is a fan?
“Is that a rubber mini?” Stephanie squeaked. “We read about rubber minis in Style- it said they’re the latest fashion statement from Southern California, remember? I’ve never seen one in person.”…Comfortable or not, the mini looked great. It was deep red. Karen Lawson had on white legwarmers, and her sweater was red sprinkled with black lines and white circles and crosses, like a tic-tac toe game. One of her arms was loaded with sparkling bangle bracelets that clinked as she moved , and a gold feather earring dangled from one ear…and she didn’t even look tacky! Her hair was honey-colored, shoulder-length, and a mass of tight little waves.
It's a wonder I'm able to think at all. Plus, I want that outfit.
Then there's my previously mentioned Baby Sitters' Club obsession. Sweet Valley High. Anything Judy Blume ever wrote. So many good-bad series and standalone books. The one where the girl gets arrested for shoplifting to fit in with her new idiot friends. The one where her dumbass boyfriend ignores her because there's some new southern belle whore in town for the summer. The one where it's all a big fucking play on Cinderella for no discernable reason. I really wish I remembered the names of these books so I could run out and reread them...
The Dairy Burger has made me squee about a hundred and thirty seven (ding!) times today out of nostalgia, which is a little pathetic.mental state: busy now playing: tapping keyboards

1. Not a fan of basketball? Never fear, there is Fug Madness for all. Personally, I've got $10 that Gallo-fellating, ugly as sin, possibly legally blind Chloe Sevigny takes the whole thing.
2. I think a girlie shopping day is in order at some point. Reply if you would be interested.
3. I have a deep love of old, mostly crappy video games and systems, so Super Mario Bros on the Atari, Super Mario Bros on the Sega Genesis, and Super Mario Galaxy on the SNES are just too good for words. I kind of want them to make that SNES version.mental state: sore now playing: Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust

true jeans - You can either put in your measurements or give them estimates with pant sizes and whatnot, and they'll return results that fit your body and style preferences. Some of the recommendations are pretty pricey, but I would rather buy one pair that fits very well than 5 pairs that sorta kinda fit. The next time I go to Nordstrom I'm going to try their recommendations.
ETA: true jeans works for both men and women
zafu - Pretty much the same as true jeans, but they also have sizing recommendations for bras and pants. They seem to be slightly less designer oriented, and gave me more reasonable price recommendations, and accurate ones at that. When I made my pants selections, they recommended my very most favorite J. Crew chinos, which is a sign that they know their shit. Warning: they seem to be under the impression that boobs don't come in sizes larger than DD/E. I would still recommend Freya bras for anyone not able to find their size in a traditional store. I mean, the Arabella runs from 28DD to 38J. That's an impressive range for tit containment.mental state: sleepy now playing: Interpol - Say Hello To The Angels
